In a recent interview, her grandfather Tetsuo Osaka revealed that she’d predicted that she would go on to win the Australian Open title on January 1, 2021, itself. The 76-year-old said that Osaka had told the same to her mother on a phone call on the first day of the new year.
“When you’ve looked at her for over 10 years, you come to know when she’s not in form and when she’s speaking with confidence,” said Osaka’s grandfather.
Naomi’s grandfather also disclosed that she’d expressed a desire to win the Olympic Gold medal on the phone call as well. He believes that her granddaughter is doing great and will be able to play like this at least for the next ten years.
“It’s like mountain climbing. She’s like an alpinist going after higher mountains, and I think she’ll be able to keep going for about 10 years,” added Tetsuo.

Osaka’s grandfather also advised her to be a good person and highlighted that she should not get arrogant even after achieving everything.
“You’ve got to be a good person. Just because they’re strong, a person shouldn’t become arrogant,” continued the 76-year-old.
He also expressed his own wish that he would like Osaka to fulfill in the near future. He wants Osaka to open a tennis school for children.
“I’d like her to open a tennis school for children in Nemuro. To do that, the coronavirus has to end first,” concluded the grandfather.
