Niece of Bob Hope also appeared in one of his films
Avis Anne Hope Eckelberry, an editor on films “The Last Boy Scout,” “Mr. Saturday Night,” “Super Mario Brothers,” “The Flintstones,” “Cobb” and “Forget Paris,” died from complications relating to ovarian cancer in Los Angeles on Saturday. She was 56.
Eckelberry was a niece of late comedian Bob Hope.
She was born in Columbus, Ohio, but the family moved to Los Angeles, where her father, George, worked with his brother Bob on show business projects. While growing up in Toluca Lake, she trained as a tap dancer and performed as a teenager. As a child she appeared in the Bob Hope movie “Eight on the Lam.”
After she worked as a physical trainer and athletic coordinator for fashion manufacturer Esprit in San Francisco, she was introduced to film editing by the screenwriter Floyd Mutrux.
